An all-new 2018 Volvo XC60 USA version engineered and designed for the US market will soon debut officially in the New York. The inbound version, which made its world premiere last month in Geneva, will grace the New York Auto Show in the next couple of weeks.
The Volvo’s best-selling edition is the first of its latest mid-size 60 series lineup comprising a new V60 wagon and S60 sedan. Apparently, the outgoing crossover recorded the best sales ever in 2016. With crossovers, currently on the rage the world over, we can anticipate great things from the inbound model.
The latest XC60 resembles its larger sibling, the Volvo XC90. It is wearing the Volvo’s latest design language developed under the watch of Thomas Ingenlath, the Senior Vice President of Design team.
2018 Volvo XC60 – External and Internal Cosmetics
For those who were enamored with the latest XC90 yet desire a tad smaller and reasonably priced model, then the 2018 Volvo XC60 USA version is meant for you. Seemingly, the XC60 carries over all the remarkable aspects of the CX90 and brings all of them closer to the mainstream.
It will integrate numerous design cues from its bigger siblings. The car’s headlights showcase the same Thor’s Hammer units, which we have seen on nearly every new Volvo. We noticed that the silhouette mirrors the XC90, but the rear ends borrow a lot of inspirations from the V90 station wagon.
When it comes to the interior, we also noticed that its cabin is not any different from other new prototypes. It focuses mostly on minimalism that leaves you with a straightforward dashboard. The dash accommodates a vertically-oriented Sensus Connect infotainment touchscreen. Also, the gauge cluster is a screen, so it reflects other Volvo replicas again.
The XC60 also puts safety atop of everything else. And, there’s plenty of safety features you can find in the cabin. This model becomes the first Volvo ever to present extra steering assistance, which moves the vehicle away from danger. It also introduces the Pilot Assist along with an array of semi-autonomous driver aids. They prove useful in controlling the gas, steering and brakes up to 81 mph.
Turbocharged Engine in the 2018 Volvo XC60
The 2018 Volvo XC60 USA version will come with two engine options. The first one will have a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 (XC60 T5). This engine will produce 240 horsepower with 258 lb-ft of torque. Its EPA city/highway fuel economy is 23/30 mpg for the (FWD) and 20/29 mpg (AWD). The second one is 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged inline-4 (XC60 T6 & R-Design). This one will produce 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The fuel economy for this one is 20/27 mpg.
2018 Volvo XC60 – Production and Cost
The 2018 Volvo XC60 USA version is slated to start production later this month and goes on sale sometime later this year. Pricing is still a mystery. But for the record, the previous XC60 started at $42,000.
