The Japanese automaker has been busy manufacturing the upcoming model 2018 Mazda CX-4. Its CX series – especially CX-5 and CX-3 are being sold handsomely and faring well among luxury crossovers. The latest model is the company’s SUV that stands at a level between the CX-3 and CX-5. The new SUV is likely to be oriented for the Chinese market due to its manufacturing policies and arrangements. The US market might also see the face of CX-4 in 2018.
2018 Mazda CX-4 – Body Style and Technology
Expect to see a coupe-like design in the 2018 Mazda CX-4. Remind yourself of the Mazda CX-5 as most features of the crossover will look like that of the CX-5. Based on the Mazda Koeru concept, it has a very low height of 59 inches and a sleek body. The stainless steel front grille sports the Mazda logo flanked by eye-shaped headlights. Adaptive LED has been used for the headlights. The bumpers with the fog lights are very sleek too.
The smooth curves flow from the sides on the doors till the rear. The SUV’s roofline sweeps back towards the rear and even the rear windscreen is quite laid back. The A, B and C pillars of the vehicle have been blacked out to make the side windows more prominent. The 17-inch alloy wheels along with black cladding on the lower deck of the 2018 Mazda CX-4 will ensure drivers get an SUV driving experience. The 2018 Mazda CX-4 will be equipped with Mazda’s Smart SkyActiv 2.5 liter inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine that delivers 184 HP of power and 185 lb-ft of torque. Another variant of the 2.0-liter capacity engine is also on the line. Expect a power output of 155 HP and 150 lb-ft torque.
A 2.2-liter diesel engine is likely to be installed in some variants of the SUV, which will have a power output of 147 HP and 280 lb-ft torque.
All engines will be backed by 6-speed automatic transmission all-wheel drive mode. The MacPherson strut and multilink suspension on the wheels will ensure a comfortable off-road experience for passengers.
Launch Date, Price and Rivals
The 2018 Mazda CX-4 will hit the showrooms by early 2018 and will be available in 7 vibrant colors. Pricing is estimated to around $22,000, a little higher than that of the CX-3. The luxury SUV fit for 5 passengers will give a tough fight against the likes of BMW X4 and Nissan Qashqai.
