The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is a medium sized crossover, currently at its fifth version. The car borrows a lot of features from its “brothers”, Mazda 3 and Mazda 6, but has its own unique design. The first CX-5 was launched in 2011 and in the same year, it won the “Car of the Year” award in Japan. Even though it was produced to be a sports car, Mazda CX-5 successfully combines the sportive accessories with a lot of family-friendly features, making it a very successful car and one of the most purchased SUVs in the entire world.
2017 Mazda CX-5 – Significantly Changed Design:
The first notable change at the 2017 Mazda CX-5 is the front grille, which has been significantly changed. It now has some larger spaces and along with the modified headlights, it gives the car an aspect of sharpness and aerodynamics. Even though the headlights weren’t redesigned, the technology behind them has been changed, and they now run on LED tech. The fog lights were changed as well, and even though they are small, they are incredibly effective in bad weather conditions. Overall, the bodywork has a more muscular and aerodynamic design and the color palette has been increased.
The interior of the 2017 Mazda CX-5 has been modified as well, and the center console is now more stylish and more simple to operate, also the climate control and the high-tech multimedia features are now integrated into the console. A controversial change in the car was the removal of the standard parking brake lever. Instead, they’ve replaced it with an electrically operated button. The comfort of the passengers is improved at the 2017 Mazda CX-5 and the extended rear seat cushion increases comfort even for the second-row passengers. Speaking of the acoustic levels, the producer states that the noise inside the cabin has been reduced by 10%.
2017 Mazda CX-5 – Powertrain Options:
The engine at the Mazda CX-5 is a standard one at the Touring and Grand Touring models and it will be a 2.5-L, four cylinder gas engine which will be able to produce up to 184 hp and an 185 lb. of torque. The engine can be operated only by the standard 6-speed automatic transmission. Another engine option will be the standard 2.0-L 4 cylinder engine which is able to deliver up to 155 hp and 150 lb. of torque. The basic version of the car has only front-wheel traction, but the premium one can be delivered with the all-wheel drive feature. The car performance is pretty decent and it can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.7 seconds and can reach a more than the decent maximum speed of 120 mph.
2017 Mazda CX-5 – Availability and MSRP:
The new Mazda CX-5 is planned to be presented to the large audience by the end of this year and then be launched on the international markets since the beginning of 2017. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the car will vary and we can expect to buy a basic model for around $22,700 and a premium full option one for about $30,000. Even though we’re talking about a very reliable car with a strong reputation behind it, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 will have to compete with cars like Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 and it will be a tough challenge for the Japanese car manufacturer to impose on the international market.
