Like the 2017 year model, this new-gen 2018 Lexus NX will offer 3 different trim levels – NX Turbo, NX Turbo F Sport and NX 300h. Things get interesting when automakers try and adapt out-of-the-box approach in compact crossovers. The Lexus NX is undoubtedly a driver-centric vehicle as it incorporates a bloat-load of modern technology and the new-gen variant; 2018 Lexus NX is coming to emphasize on these characteristics.
2018 Lexus NX – Design Overhaul
The 2018 Lexus NX is expected to come with a revamped styling. The new-gen influences will be most seen on the front fascia as the headlights will add blue-ish hue LED with a tri-cluster arrangement. These headlights will even flaunt sharp and angular cuts pointing towards the grille.
The signature trapezoidal grille will incorporate 4 chrome louvers and metallic embellishments (design will vary according to trims). The front bumper will flaunt a robust poise with skid plate having a minimalistic approach.
The new 18-inch 5-spoke cast alloy wheels will come as standard and 20-inch 6-spoke machined aluminum variants as optional. Similarly, the exterior color option will include Nebula Gray Pearl, Blue Vortex Metallic, Autumn Shimmer and Eminent White Pearl.
The interior cabin of 2018 Lexus NX is getting serious updates, especially on the technology front. The Lexus EnForm® infotainment system along with the 4.2-inch gauge cluster display is up for revisions. Moreover, the center console and steering wheel will be reworked with an ergonomic arrangement of controls.
The new-gen Lexus NX is suspected to improve on the overall vehicle as well. Its safety technologies will include Electronic Stability Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Multistage Airbags, Rollover Protection, Side Impact Beams and Tire Pressuring Monitoring.
2018 Lexus NX – Powertrain Upgrade
The new Lexus NX will use a 2.0L 4 cylinder engine to achieve power outputs of more than 235 HP and 258 lb-ft torque that will rev in between 1,700 – 4,200 RPM. This powertrain will integrate features like dry sump lubrication and Variable Valve Timing to keep fuel economy in check at 22 mpg in the city, and 28 mpg on highways.
The acceleration from 0 to 60 mph will come in around 6.7 seconds. Similarly, there are high chances that top speed might be increased to 128 mph.
Another powertrain option will include a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine which will come as standard on the range-topping NX 300h trim. This mill is to receive several tweaks and will be good for producing a 194HP. Not just the outputs but this engine will benefit from class-leading EPA ratings of 33 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on highways.
2018 Lexus NX – Competitors, Release Date and Price
The new-gen Lexus NX will rival Infiniti QX30, BMW X1, and Lincoln MKC. The new Lexus NX is expected to hit the dealerships by the end of 2017. The base model is expected to come with a starting price of around $36,000.
