The South Korean car manufacturers are ready to come out with the next version of their subcompact crossover 2018 Kia Soul. This vehicle is in its second generation currently and will be released with some significant redesigns and enhancements to suit this current generation. The car has both a conventional petrol version and an EV version which runs on battery.
2018 Kia Soul – Exterior Features
The new 2018 Kia Soul is expected to be much more stylish than its previous version. Its headlights will be tweaked with fog lamps being put a little higher and stretched a bit on the sides. Its air vents which were present in its previous model were not of any real use, and they will be removed in this new model. The wheelbase of the 2018 Kia Soul is 2570 mm while ground clearance happens to be 150 mm. However, the height and weight are 1605 mm and 2884 pounds respectively, which shows that this car will stay predominantly lightweight.
From the Inside
The 2018 Kia Soul will not go too many changes on the inside, as Kia already performed a facelift recently. The cabin is expected to be lined with dark plastic with suitable chrome finishing wherever needed for aesthetic purposes. The dashboard will have a 5 inch LCD for navigation and controls. Its steering wheel and the gear stick, both are expected to have leather cover. The infotainment system and navigation will be powered by Kia’s UVO eServices. Smartphone integration apps too are expected.
2018 Kia Soul – Powertrain and Top Speed
A variety of options will be available as engines for the new Kia Soul. For its petrol version, a 1.6-litre T-GDI engine capable of producing 130 HP. Another likely option for Kia Soul will be a 2.0 liter four cylinder unit that produces 161 HP. Base models will have a choice between a 6-speed manual and transmission, but higher range models will be automatic. For its EV or electric vehicle version, the Kia offers a 30 kW battery which will allow the vehicle to have a 105-mile EV-only range. This will be significantly more than its previous version which had a 93-mile range. Top speed of Soul will be 124 mph while 0 to 60 mph would take 7.5 seconds.
2018 Kia Soul – Expected Release Date, Price and Rivals
Much speculation has gone on the release date of the Kia Soul. Some experts have predicted that this dynamic vehicle will be out buying the fall of 2017. The EV version may take a little more time to come to the market. The base model currently costs $16,000 and this car may only be a few hundred dollars higher.
The main rivals to Soul will be likes of Toyota RAV4 and Honda Fit, while its EV version will compete with Nissan Leaf and Tesla Model III.
