We’ve snapped the first grainy pictures of the 2019 Cadillac XT4 on a hot-weather testing session in Southern Europe. Our spy photographers claim that this small crossover utility vehicle looks edgy and ready to surprise its enthusiasts. Seemingly, the new Cadillac model has a lot of distinctive characteristics that tell more about the crossover.
2019 Cadillac XT4 – Design Motifs
The Cadillac introduced the “Art and Science” design language in the early 2000s. Since then, this carmaker has been evolving its styling and continues to do the same in the upcoming years. That said, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 features a few design motifs which are also evident on models like CTS and the recently unveiled XT5.
Although we don’t have much to say about this heavily camouflaged test car, it seems the XT4 comes as a shrunken version of the XT5. It receives the same massive front grille with pointy headlamps that include LED strips. In addition to a wedge side profile look, the model conveys a three window design. Two ascending character lines are visible.
At the rear, we can see a flattened rear window and a pair of vertical LED taillights. Based on our spy shots, a pair of side exhausts will become available as standard no matter the engine option. The XT4 is designed for urban areas, implying that we shouldn’t expect a lot of ground clearance.
Like other modern Cadillac models, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 makes do with a V-shaped center console. The well tucked-in screen comes as standard while top-tier trims get a larger screen with touch capabilities. The acclaimed CUE infotainment system becomes an option.
Worth noting, the next-gen 2019 Cadillac XT4 is a tad larger than its competitors. For that reason, the customers will get a large car that is equivalent to the price of a GLA or X1. As far as items go, the Cadillac XT4 model comes with the same extent of luxury. The base model receives cloth seats as standard. If you are willing to pay a little more, you get pure leather on seats and dashboard, wood-grain insets and aluminum trim.
Standard equipment inside the cabin will comprise Apple CarPlay and Android Auto designed for the smartphone integration. Besides, we will have a wireless charging dock and a 4G hotspot as standard. Optional features include heated & cooled seats, a rear-camera mirror system as well as a rear-seat entertainment system.
There’s no official word yet concerning what engine is stacked under the hood of the 2019 Cadillac XT4. However, we did realize that the test car seems to be having an intercooler behind the front fascia. That should give us a hint that Cadillac intends to bring a turbocharged engine.
The most likely motor is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit that is also availed beneath the hood of the ATS. It shouldn’t be surprising given that BMW, Audi, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz are all supplying similar drivetrains in their crossovers.
In the ATS, the supposed engine cranks out up to 272 horses and 295 pound-feet of torque. It gets hooked to either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The output might be slightly lower in our incumbent XT4. And, the odds are that Caddy supplies a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Price and Estimated Arrival of the 2019 Cadillac XT4
We expect the 2019 Cadillac XT4 to charge something in the region of $30,000 for entry-level variants. We’re told that the newest Cadillac XT4 crossover is supposed to arrive by mid-2018. Its competition arena will constitute many rivals like Audi Q3, Acura RDX, Lexus NX and BMW X1 among others.
