The Audi’s Q8 was launched in January 2017 and an improved version of the full sized SUV is under concept phase that would be unveiled as the 2018 Audi Q8. Its production will begin in early 2018 at Audi’s Bratislava plant. The Audi is gradually raising the benchmark of manufacturing smarter cars in recent times. The luxury sedans like the A-series and smart crossovers in Q-series are sports tech savvy driving features along with high-performance engines.
2018 Audi Q8 – Redesign
The Audi’s Q series crossover vehicles are mostly inspired by the 1980s sports car Quattro with the sloping roofline and beefy haunches. The new 2018 Audi Q8 follows the same concept. The front grille is massive with a single casing frame and full chrome linings. Following Audi’s latest polygon template, the grille has 8 sides and 6 vertical slats over the meshed pattern. Its wedge-shaped LED lights are connected to the grille frame. The front bumpers are also chrome-laden with trendy air vents.
The taillights also have a futuristic design with a single horizontal layout covering the whole back fascia. Both headlight and taillights will have full laser technology which is new.
The Q8 will feature also a smart door-opening technology. Its sensors will open the door automatically to a certain angle on hand touch.
The 2018 Audi Q8 will have premium Nappa or Nubuck leather on seats, dashboard and steering wheels. At the center of the dashboard is a 7-inch MMI screen that also has Bluetooth and Wireless functions, dual-zone climate control, smartphone integration feature and satellite navigation. The drivers will also have a virtual cockpit screen that pops out of the dashboard. However, the back row passengers will also get 10.1-inch displays for multimedia streaming. Bose speakers will enhance cabin acoustics along with advanced noise cancellation technology. Side and front curtain airbags, antilock braking system, collision alert, surround view cameras, lane guiding sensors and also traffic signal recognition systems will be providing safety for passengers.
2018 Audi Q8 – Engine Specifications
The 2018 Audi Q8 will be run on a 3.0L V6 engine delivering over 333 HP power. Furthermore, the Audi is likely to add a 4.2L V8 engine that would provide a power of 400 HP and torque of 430 lb-ft. The Audi is also collaborating with Porsche for a hybrid engine that will be installed in the new Q8 along with other cars. The hybrid concept is termed as KoVoMo and will be packed with a 48 V battery pack. The engines will be backed by 8-speed automatic transmissions system for a forward wheel drive model along with an all-wheel drive will be an option.
2018 Audi Q8 – Estimate Date of Release and Price
The Audi Q8 is still in concept phase, production slated to begin in 2018. Actual release date will be in the winter of 2018. A luxury packed SUV as it is, the Q8 will be priced over $78,000. The price will be different for the three trims – Q8, SQ8 and RSQ8. The competitors in the market: BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
