2018 Audi Q5 Review

The unbeatable German automaker Audi never disappoints, and its 2018 Audi Q5 won’t either. Since the 2008 debut model, developers behind the Q series had been slow to include major changes until now. The trend to release familiar designs seems to be breeding discontent on the market; a fact that is pushing for a complete redesign of the newer models. The major focus has been on the engine with less effort on the visual appearance. The Q5’s production will be by San Jose Chiapa plant in Mexico. Let’s explore its exterior, interior, engine, performance, release date and price.

2018 Audi Q5 – Dashing Exterior:

After the recent Audi convention, expect few surprises on the 2018 Audi Q5 exterior. As a matter of fact, body comparison with its immediate predecessor reveals that it is more of a rehash than a new model. Except for a revamped grille and advanced headlights, the same old front-side appearance remains. Its rear is not different either. It features a single exhaust pipe and dual LED lights for increased visibility in inclement weather. It jaunts on an 111-inch wheelbase which is over half an inch bigger than its forerunner’s. The new wheel suspension additions will significantly make the Q5 feel lighter when driving. The engineers have been enthusiastic about whacking out mass whenever necessary, and this time they infused a high-tensile-strength aluminum and steel material on the body of this model. Consequently, its weight stands at 198 pounds lighter. It is 1.3-inches longer than the predecessor.

Interior for Everyone:

The Audi vehicles are popular for their elegant and eminent interior; the 2018 Audi Q5 is no exception. Its interior boasts of world-class, 5-passenger leather seats each with a noticeably increased legroom created by the larger rear wheel base. Other smart features included are an advanced driver assistance functionality, 12.3-inch Virtual cockpit, four-color head-up display, MMI inbuilt hand recognition function and full support for Google Android Auto and Apple Carplay smartphone interfaces. On safety, the Audi has proved itself a leader yet again. It features a pedestrian detection unit which works in sync with its automatic braking system when speeds are below 52 mph. It has an adaptive cruise control for a smooth traffic drive and a vehicle exit assist functionality to warn against oncoming cyclists. Most of the smart features are designated to improve vehicle-driver connection.

2018 Audi Q5 – Powertrain:

The powertrain is where the 2018 Audi Q5 excels. The previous V6 engine has been replaced by a 2.0-liter diesel engine which is turbocharged and produces a whopping 252 horsepower and 272-lb -ft of torque. Its transmission ships in with an automatic seven-speed dual clutch system for a smoother and quicker shift. It is powered by a four-wheel-drive system which uses the new ultra-technology that no longer depends on the center differential. Additionally, it employs a dual-clutch technology which distributes torque from the front to the rear wheels. It is a smart way of saving fuel and increasing overall speeds since rear wheels are disengaged when there is a lesser strain on acceleration. The head developers are targeting a 2WD fuel consumption rate by deactivating the rear differential spinning when not needed. The new Q5 accelerates from 0-60 mph in under 5.9 seconds.
